Mosquito Control

The City of Richmond Hill recognizes the importance of pollinators like bees and butterflies in our ecosystem. We are also committed to protecting the health and well-being of our residents from mosquito-borne illnesses.

To balance these priorities, we have developed a mosquito control plan that minimizes the impact on pollinators while reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

Spraying and Product Information:

  • We conduct routine spraying along roadways, ditches, and swales to target areas where mosquitoes breed.
  • The product used is Kontrol 4-4, a synthetic pyrethroid mixed with oil, applied with an Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayer to minimize the amount of product released.
  • Spraying is cancelled if wind exceeds 10 mph to prevent drift and protect beneficial insects.
  • We maintain a list of active beekeeping operations in the city that is updated annually.

Licensed Applicator:

  • Charlie Heino, License #16305 (Expires 6/12/2028)

Mosquito Dunks for Standing Water:

  • Summit Mosquito Dunks® are available upon request for City of Richmond Hill residents (while supplies last) at City Hall, located at 40 Richard R. Davis Dr.
  • These dunks contain Bti, a naturally occurring bacterium that is toxic only to mosquito and gnat larvae. Bti is not harmful to people, pets, or other wildlife.
